Alpine Rendez-Vous: Announcements, Keynotes, Awards, Prototypes - Summary and Links

December 1, 2009 by Eelco Herder   Comments (0)

As appears to be a tradition at the Alpine Rendez-Vous, the keynote talks and announcements take place in the middle of the week: after the first round of workshops and before the second round of workshops, which ensures the presence of participants of both rounds of workshops. Clever thinking.

Peter Scott introduced the Stellar Network of Excellence and the European Association for Technology-Enhanced Learning EATEL. EATEL is one of the main sponsors of the European Conference on Technology-Enhanced Learning ECTEL. Last year's ECTEL 2009 conference took place in Nice, France.

The winner of the ECTEL 2009 Interdisciplinary Paper Award, Martin Memmel (together with Martin Wolpers and Alberto Giretti) gave an invited speech on the MACE Project: "Metadata in architecture education - First evaluation results of the MACE system”. An interesting mash-up of various applications, with metadata. To quote one of the reviewers: "It is complicated ánd it works".

Nicolas Balacheff introduced the TELEARC Association and introduced Guillermo Vega Gorgojo, winner of the first TELEARC PhD Research Award. His presentation is called "Ontoolcole/Ontoolsearch: an ontology-based search system of CSCL tools for Educators." A prototype of Ontoolsearch is available at pandora.tel.uva.es (actually, I forgot to mention that the MACE site has a prototype to explore as well).

Time for the very important Coffee Break.
