Call for Workshop and Tutorial Proposals
Submission deadline: 24 December 2010
UMAP is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to their individual users, or to groups of users, and collect and represent information about users for this purpose. It is organized under the auspices of User Modeling Inc. in cooperation with ACM SIGIR, SIGCHI and SIGART and SIGWEB.
The 19th edition, UMAP 2011, will be held at the Centre Cultural la Mercè in the city of Girona, Spain.
UMAP 2011 is looking for exciting proposals for half-day or full-day workshops and tutorials to be held on July 11th, and July 15th 2011, the first and last days of the conference. Each workshop should generate discussions that give the UMAP community a new, organized way of thinking about the topic, or ideas that suggest promising directions for future research. A successful workshop can move the field forward and help in building community. Each tutorial should provide its attendees with new knowledge and clear understanding of the specific topics discussed.
Workshops
Workshops provide members of a community a forum to discuss common interests in a focused way. If you are working in an emerging area in User Modeling, or in an area which can benefit from the adoption of personalization, consider organizing a workshop. They are a chance to meet mind-alike researchers and discover what others are doing. A workshop offers a good opportunity for young researchers to present their work and to obtain feedback from an interested community. Successful workshops may result in edited books or special issues in international journals.
Tutorials
Tutorials provide an opportunity for young researchers and graduate students to effectively learn from domain experts since there are no “text books” for UMAP. As such tutorials co-located with a major conference provide a unique opportunity for the community to share experience and teach the “next generation” of researchers.
