Multimedia learning is a concept which born in the early seventies, at the time of the wedding of artificial intelligence and education. Actually, it can be seen either as a concept or a research paradigm. Since the seventies, multimedia learning and AI&Ed have developed essentially independently. but this may change with the enhancement of multimedia environment with interactivity. Mireille notices that this evolution may strengthen the ties between multimedia learning and simulation -- I would even include learning games as well. But the core of Multimedia which gives it its specific relevance to the TEL research area is not its technological dimensions, but the relations it conceptualises or models between text based information and graphical representations.
