For newcomers, here is an introduction presentation on LTfLL and what it aims to achieve:

For newcomers as well, this is a reference of a LTfLL poster presented in ICALT 2009:

Berlanga, A. J., Van Rosmalen, P., Trausan-Matu, S., Monachesi, P., & Burek, G. (2009). The Language Technologies for Lifelong Learning Project. In I. Aedo., N. Chen, Kinshuk, D. Sampson & L. Zaitseva (Eds.), Proceedings of the 9th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT2009) (pp. 624-625). July, 14-18, 2009, Riga, Latvia: IEEE. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1820/1784

A more detailed description of the services can be found in the “LTfLL overview service description”, available at http://www.ltfll-project.org/tl_files/Dokus_Flash/LTfLL-Service-Description.pdf

One central goal of the LTFLL project is to offer support for positioning longlife learners. This task can be explained as identifying each learner's zone of proximal development for an specific area of expertise. In this context positioning can be achieved by means of comparing learner's texts against prototypical texts. Experts in a given field develop a speech genre, which includes terminology and phrasal usage. Thus, learners' degree of expertise can be indirectly measured by calculating learner texts distance to expert usage. Since knowledge is, to a large extent, acquired socially, becoming an expert in a domain involves socializing with members of a community of practice, which in turn involves adoption of the speech genre of this community.

Dear all,

You can be interested in stablishing synergies between your project and ours, as we are all working in LifeLong Learning....

EU4ALL is a European Commisison funded project. Its objective is to develop a flexible and standard-based Service Open Architecture, to enforce accessibility to Lifelong Learning in higher education institutions for people with functional diversity and special needs (i. e. people with disabilities and the elderly.) There are 15 institutions from 8 countries working on this project, some prestigious European Universities amongst them.

You will also find information and published papers about the project in our website: http://www.eu4all-project.eu

And you can see our videos in our YouTube Channel (one of them includes English, Spanish and Italian subtitles)

The project is currently under the trial phase, so it is a good moment to interchange experiences and feedback with those Universities that are installing the system! For any question or comment, join our forum in TELEUrope! http://www.teleurope.eu/pg/groups/forum/517/

Hope you find this information interesting!
