This is a list of actions stellar members can take to help kick start the TELeurope.eu portal:
1. Join the community at club.stellarnet.eu If you have not already done so, please register on the platform and create a profile! Those of us within STELLAR are already interesting to talk to (at least I hope we are J)
2. Invite your colleagues to join at club.stellarnet.eu Please contact even 4-5 colleagues via Skype/MSN/E-mail/Beer Summit, and ask them to dedicate 10 minutes of their time to joining the community – this will help us reach the critical mass of users needed to really get the community going
3. Create a Group for your field of speciality This step is critical. We need a number of groups within the community for discussing items related to TEL up and running if this whole enterprise is going to work. Thus, here is a quick primer in setting up a group:
a. Create a Group for a field of speciality not a question – thus create a group for discussing e.g. Google Wave, Mobile Learning, Quality in TEL, Working conditions of TEL Professors, Future of Education, i-gaming etc. – ideally you should be interested/working in the field, and thus be interested in participating actively within the group
b. Populate the Group with some initial threads/questions – related to the first theme, add some discussion points in the group. These do not need to be super-generic, but can be specific questions related to the field you are interested in discussing. The rationale is that if it interests you, it should interest another professional in the field, and the other professional might ask their own questions, if they realise it’s a serious place for discussion. TIP: stay away from generic ‘marketing’ threads, e.g. Why is mobile learning important? – no m-learning professional will want to waste time with this sort of discussion
c. Invite Your Colleagues – see step 2. However, if you have a specific group in your field of speciality, your colleagues in various institutions may be interested in using the platform to discuss with you
d. Don’t Fire and Forget – once you create a group, follow it, animate it – in short babysit the threads until they are old enough to go out in the world and live their own lives ;-)
4. Comment, Discuss, Criticise Look at the content already there and PARTICIPATE! I’m going to ask that each one of you tries to do two content-actions (i.e. not adding a friend, actually commenting/writing something) per week. If we figure 10 mins per post and 45 people posting, this is equivalent to one man-day work from the entire consortium as a whole per week. If 3 people from your organisation do this – we’re only asking for 1 man day from your organisation (which is financed under your participation in WP5...hint hint) over the period of two months!
Any other ideas, comments, criticisms, lauds of praise or suggestions? Please post!
