Guidance on presenting your work (morning sessions)

The programme has about an hour each of the first three mornings for the presentation of student work. Students who are more than about 18 months into their PhD will be expected to present. As soon as we have the relevant information from you, you will be told which morning your presentation is on and how long you have.

You can either

A. present an overview of your work, perhaps using some of the slides you prepared and submitted

or

B. Pick ONE thing to talk about, for example

  • why is your research important (why does it matter?)
  • a discussion of your methods (you can ask the audience for help and advice)
  • how you developed your research questions (or how you are developing them)
  • a presentation of emerging findings

These are only examples, we look forward to hearing what you want to talk about. You can be as creative as you like and you don't have to use PowerPoint. If you choose to use PowerPoint, send the presentation to Marie Joubert (marie.joubert@bristol.ac.uk) in good time because we don't want to be fiddling around with memory sticks on the day due to very strict timing.

We will be strict about chairing to make sure that everyone gets a fair share of the time so make sure your presentation is sharp and focused. If you want audience feedback, allow enough time.
