The SIG dataTEL aims to address these issues by advancing data driven research to gain verifiable and valid results and to develop a body of knowledge about the personalization of learning.

Application/Environment

Mendeley is a research platform that helps users to organize   their   research,
collaborate with colleagues and discover new knowledge. Mendeley records and
analyzes a vast amount of data on a daily basis. Since Mendeley was  launched  in
2009, its user base has grown to 400,000 researchers who have contributed 29 million
research documents.

Data Set Coverage

Five files are included in Mendeley's data set: online catalog; online article view logs;
library  readership;   library stars;  and article  tags. The data  in  these  files will  help
researchers to test and optimize recommendation systems in the domain of scientific literature.  The data set represents around 10% of Mendeley's article catalog database and user profiles.  Furthermore, the usage log data restricted to 200,000 unique visitors, some tracked by IP address and other by their Mendeley user profile, over a limited time period.

To obtain this data set, you have to get in contact with Mendeley (datachallenge@mendeley.com) and provide them with the following information:

  • Your name and any other colleagues working with the dataset.
  • Institutional affiliation
  • Address information where we can contact you.
  • A phone number where we may reach you.
