Girona - Spain, July 11-15, 2011

Continuing a tradition that started in 1994, the UMAP 2011 Doctoral Consortium aims to provide qualified Ph.D. students with the opportunity to present their on-going research to the UM community.
The Doctoral Consortium provides a forum for Ph.D. students to receive useful feedback from the leading experts, to exchange ideas, compare approaches and meet fellow researchers in the field. Doctoral students are invited to apply to present their research to scholars and researchers in the field who will provide constructive comments about their work.
Submissions should be related to the conference topics and describe Ph.D. research that is at a stage where feedback from the broader UM community might be of value. Thus, we expect students to be close to presenting their thesis proposal, or to have presented the proposal with at least a year of work remaining before completion of their thesis. Submissions should include an extended abstract (up to four pages in the Springer LNCS format, including figures and references), which covers the following aspects:
Submissions should also include a 1-page statement that includes information about the student¹s progress toward degree so far (stage in degree program and anticipated completion date), identifies the student¹s advisor, and indicates the questions or topics on which the student would especially like to receive advice. Please, merge the statement and the extended abstract into a single file. Only pdf documents will be accepted.
The deadline for submissions is 7 February 2011. The documents should be submitted through EasyChair to the "Young Researcher Track".
Applications of a high quality will be selected by the consortium committee for presentation at the conference in a short (15-20 minute) presentation, which may include a demonstration if appropriate. Each student will be assigned a mentor who will provide feedback on the student's work, and collate feedback from other Program Committee members. Students whose submissions are selected for presentation will be asked to submit a short list of questions to the committee. A revised version of this extended abstract will be included in the Conference Proceedings, which will be published in Springer LNCS series.
A limited number of fellowships will be available to enable students with accepted contributions to attend UMAP 2011.
